Demand for Food Trucks Continues Through COVID-19

The idea of selling food from a mobile vehicle began more than 100 years ago, but the recent boom in the mobile food industry over the past 10 years has led to food trucks quickly becoming a staple in our everyday lives. From fairs, festivals and parties to corporate catering, wedding treats and neighborhood popups, food trucks provide both guests and operators with flexibility that cannot be attained from a brick and mortar store.

When we opened our first kiosk in 2014 at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets, we developed a strong following and quickly built our brand by making our product easily accessible to hungry shoppers. As time went on, demand to take our concept mobile to weddings and corporate events quickly began to escalate. We decided in 2015 to leap into the world of food trucks and take our mini donut concept mobile. Since then, we have continued to pioneer the industry with the latest and greatest mobile trailers, donut equipment and premium product offerings to stand out as one of the most unique and eye-catching food trucks in the market.

Although COVID-19 has forced many businesses to limit their operating capacity or even shut down entirely, our franchisees have been able to capitalize on the demand for mobile treats by bringing the party (and sweets) direct to guests. We have seen an influx of demand for individually packaged servings of donuts to be handed out to guests at drive-by birthday parties, corporate events and other gatherings. Demand to vend at new types of locations and events emerged industry-wide, including neighborhood Food Truck Friday's, bars that didn't have a food program in place but were required to serve food to stay open, and even New Jersey casinos that were limited to outdoor dining only with only a few days notice. The flexibility of the food truck industry has allowed food truck operators to flawlessly continue operating their businesses, while also helping to keep other businesses open.

When you think of a franchise concept, most people think of a traditional brick and mortar building with recognizable signage and sit down dining. As 2020 has taught us, the "new normal" is here to stay for the immediate future, and having a business that can easily pivot operations to continue operating is imperative in today's times.
